Hi everyone,

Rifles are not my strong point, so I'd appreciate an ID for the one in this photo', which is being held by an unidentified member of the short-lived Deutsche Schutzdivision freikorps (January 1919- June 1920), and so is presumably of WWI vintage. BTW, there is no writing at all on the photo'...

Nice Photo. Must be right at the end of the war, as he has both cockades on his visored hat.

The rifle is a Gewehr 98.

Yes Gew98. And, as George points out, he has both cockades. Not unusual, some Freikorps leaned to the political right (in some cases that is an understatement) and many remained loyal to the Alte Reich.
