I just got this rifle and I have a problem with the ramrod stop. The ramrod was very difficult to remove. When I finally got it out and removed the barreled action from the stock I discovered that the pin on the front barrel band spring also goes through a tight fitting hole in the ramrod stop, preventing it from moving up to clear the slot in the ramrod, and locking the ramrod tightly in place. This rifle appears to be all original and to never have been tampered with. The way this is made it seems impossible for it to work.
What could be wrong here?

Bucs40,
I have the rod-bayonet variety, so I may not be visualising your problem correctly, but I think earlier trapdoors had a rod setup similar to Martinis. The stud doesn't clear the rod slot... with the rifle vertical you have to grasp the rod and pull outward and then upward to remove it. That stud is doing its proper job, holding things in place.

Thanks Viclav,
Will try what you suggested. I had tried pulling outward and upward before and was pulling outward so hard I was afraid of bending the rod. The stud also has some burrs on it. I will dress them down before I put it back together. This stud differs a little from the illustrations I have.
Just don't want to damage anything.
Thanks
