I must order a hammer, and I'm wondering which hammer would fit this 6 shot S&W revolver? It appears to be the Military & Police model. It has no Govt. markings. It is chambered for .38 Special. The serial number on the square butt is 2319xx. The serial number does not have a letter prefix of any kind.

Does this revolver use the same hammer as the Model 10? Or maybe the Victory Model?

Thanks in advance for your help!

When you swing out the cylinder, what is stamped on the exposed part of the frame that is normally covered by the crane? If there is a model number there, 10-2 for instance, it tells you which model revolver you have. If it is just a serial number, then it is an older revolver which should help you narrow down which hammer to get.

If you have the old style revolver I believe you will need the Victory model hammer. Quick check is the shape of the front site. MOST of the S&W's with the half moon front sight are the old long actions. If it has a sloped front site it is probably a short action.
