Hi guys. I'm new at this "forum" thing and not sure if I'm posting this properly. Forgive me if I'm doing things wrong. Anyway, we suffered a bad flood last fall and in short my neighbor gave me his Hakim. The barreled action, bolt, carrier, trigger pack, and other bits weren't in the flood. But some of the other parts were (stock etc.). So I've begun hunting down the missing/ruined parts. Now since it won't be very original and the stock is going to required extensive work, I thought : "Why not do something different?". I've been looking at Russian scopes and side mounts and wondered if anyone considered using a Dragunov style mount? I'm sure a good gunsmith could rig up what I need, but I wanted to get some opinions before I proceed. Any thoughts? I've never seen any of these mounts in person. Only pics on the web. Thanks,

Harry

I might have a better idea, .Back in the mid 90's when clintons atf was burning kids to death (waco) and shooting mothers (ruby ridge) , my militia buddies and i were getting ready to fight. I had a hakim that i shot very good with a bi-pod . I wanted a scope on it and a local gun shop/smith i delt with mounted a long eye relief pistol scope on the rear sight. Well due to the wieght of the rifle it held a grouping you couldnt believe.

Hi Harrytee,

As to scopes, we converted one Hakim into a "marksman" rifle, by adding a very hard to find Federal Arms scope mount designed for the Hakim (see them once in awhile on ebay and other boards) and a Yugo Zrak 4x scope cammed in 8mm. The mount is fitted onto the left side of the receiver. Can't use strippers with the scope mounted, but I bought a couple of fitted MG13 25rd. mags off of Gunbroker that were modified for Hakims. Works perfectly. After bedding the rifle (following db2044 instructions by the way) the rifle is very accurate and we're ringing the gong at 800 meters all day (if we do our part of course!). A couple of friends are also fitting scopes to their rifles (one a 6x Zrak, the other a Burris 3x9 Ballistic Plex Reticle Scope), but they are using Russian MOLOT side rails, and a Russian PSOP style mount with one inch rings. Looks like a good combo for these rifles.

when Hakims first showed up here they were $79 right out of the barrel. SO cheap I thought why not customize it.So I milled vents into the fore arm like a dragonov. Then I milled & ground a base for a Chinese AK mount & welded it to the left side ,centered above the barrel perfectly..That mount would only allow a 32mm objective scope at most over the barrel.I zero'd it in using the adjustments on the base w/ the scope turrets on their zero's. I made a removable bi-pod / took the grips off a bayonet and welded a folding , all metal one from another gun on it.[ bayo's were only $5 ] The scope never lost zero .I could shoot 3/4'' @ 100yds. using Egyptian ammo. What a Monster ! It weighed nearly 15#.....thanks for reading :] Rod
