"Blast form the past." I stumbled across this recently and thought others would like to see it. It's the entire Sept 1957 issue of Guns Magazine through Scribd. It takes a bit for it to load depending on your connection speed.

The most interesting part to me is the add for the milsurps on page two. I was shocked to see the M95.M, 8mm Mauser, Yugo converted Mannlicher straight pulls offered in it as I've never thought of them as being commonly available. IIRC Branko's Yugoslav Mauser Book only mentions like 185,000 being converted before WWII.

What !No Italian "VV 70 'sniper rifles'" in the "popular and hard hitting 6.5mm caliber" for $9.95 ? This ad is about 4 years before I got seriously interested in military firearms but the prices and availablity seem about the same to me. The prices seem very cheap but one has to remember how little money people-"boom times" or not- had in those days. My first job was as a clerk in a local hardware story in 1961 and I was paid,IIRC, .75 cents per hour-the minimum wage. Most of those guns were beyond my means back then.
Still, its nice to take a memory stroll through the past. Thanks, Alpenflage for your posting.

1957

Ah--1957...I guess now I'm a C&R?
I have collected several items just because of that year--nt the best justification, but ya gotta rationalize with something, right?
attached: Colt model 1957, made 5000 total in 30-06 and 243. Was supposed to be the cheap Sauer Colt....only made for 1 year. AND--a page from a 1957 gun mag.
