Critical Thinker,Think about this for a minute or two.
As A Race--That is the Human Race -- We all want war ! I know that even You cannot pass a wreck on the interstate without slowing down to get a better look !
We ALL at our core-that "bad" place pacifist claim not to have ,but have to go visit people like me for.We All Thrive on controversy.BEFORE you react ask yourself why in the hell you are on GB ? ! YOU as well as the rest of the human race dwell on/thrive on conflict.Without it there would be No Peace!
Just look at the video games you play !
Think About It !!!!!!!!
I understand that, human nature is violent. Which really shows what beasts we really are and how we are not too different from the animals we claim to be superior to.
That being said, the American public will always vote for the perceived candidate for peace. Just look at the Johnson vs Goldwater election. Goldwater wasn't going to bomb anyone but his rhetoric was turned around to make it sound like it was. Who knows, if Goldwater was elected we might not have put combat troops in Vietnam in the numbers that we did.
But look at our religions. I assume most of us are Christians. Christianity is a religion of peace. We are told to treat others as we would like to be treated and turn the other cheek. However we do end up in conflict so we created guidelines to follow in the event we had to go to war. It is called the Christian Just War theory and it is as follows(in brief):
Just cause
The reason for going to war needs to be just and can therefore be recapturing things taken or punishing people who have done wrong. A contemporary view of just cause was expressed in 1993 when the US Catholic Conference said: "Force may be used only to correct a grave, public evil, i.e., aggression or massive violation of the basic human rights of whole populations."
Comparative justice
While there may be rights and wrongs on all sides of a conflict, to override the presumption against the use of force, the injustice suffered by one party must significantly outweigh that suffered by the other. Theorists such as Brian Orend omit this term, seeing it as fertile ground for exploitation by bellicose regimes.
Legitimate authority
Only duly constituted public authorities may use deadly force or wage war
Right intention
Force may be used only in a truly just cause and solely for that purpose—correcting a suffered wrong is considered a right intention, while material gain or maintaining economies is not.
Probability of success
Arms may not be used in a futile cause or in a case where disproportionate measures are required to achieve success;
Last resort
Force may be used only after all peaceful and viable alternatives have been seriously tried and exhausted.
We have abandoned that Just War theory in favor or the doctrine of tyrants and rogue regimes; the preemptive strike.
We cannot continue down this course, it only leads to disaster.
We need Ron Paul to be our next President to bring us back to our senses about the role of government in our lives and foreign policy.
