Its unfortunate you had to step into this little scene, but I will answer your question.
The mfg is not terribly important in this case; it could be one of any of the 5 arsenals/commercial firms that made rifles that year. None are appreciably scarcer then the others, the only real issue is you would have to determine "originality" for an est. on value. Total original to 1901, no rework its going to be very valuable, post 1918 depends on many things..
Get the length, what is blued, what is "bright", and make note of any marks other than the mfg/1901, (for instance does it have a "1920" property mark, what does the right receiver look like? It markings, describe them, what kind of "proof" does it have if it has one at all? The eagle on the left receiver and possibly barrel if post 1918 re-barrel)
Really you need to describe it better but "generally" $199 its hard to go too wrong as a sum of parts are "probably" worth the $200.
This is a rifle I left at a gunshop, no pic. I do not recall the manufacturer (did not want to tip my hand to the seller that had not yet stated a price) I am looking for a wide ballpark idea of a fair price.
