SGT George Youngman of the 167th Ordnance Bomb Disposal Squadron brought home this German Flare gun. I was told these were also used as grenade launchers. Thanks to my friend Matt for finding all this information on George. Its always nice to have a picture of the vet. I'm still trying to find out more information on the 167th. I'm happy to add this cool pistol to my bring back collection!

Very cool LP42 flare pistol.....great to have the historical background as well. The earlier LP34 Kampfpistole has a rifled barrel and was used to fire grenades. They are readily recognized as they have a Z on left side of the weapon...as well as the rifled, as opposed to smooth bore. Chris...

I had a few of those years ago. If I recall correctly they had WaA’s and a dirty bird. I never knew they took grenades as well as flares.
The grenades were largely for the LP34 model "Z" that had the rifled barrel. They also made a shoulder stock for it. It was largely ineffective, as the grenades only worked at short range and thin skinned vehicles. Kampfpistole - Wikipedia
