Rosoboronexport To Develop New Models of Kalashnikov Rifles

Anatoli Isaikin, the Director General of the state arms exporter Rosoboronexport, met recently with the creator of the Kalashnikov rifles, the head of the Izhmash Company, Mikhail Kalashnikov. The meeting’s objective was to look into developing a new generation of AK-100 series rifles.

The rifles in this series share a number of innovations that were introduced to the models AK-47, AK-74 and later. Like the AK-47, AK-100 models operate on the explosion of gas produced by the firing of ammunition. The gases eject the used cartridge and insert new ammunition into the chamber.

The models AK-101 and AK-103. AK-101 already use the standard NATO 5.56 mm caliber. AK-103 - Size: 7.62mm. Kalashnikov is a milestone in terms of small arms, especially because of its recognized and insurmountable resistance to all kinds of abuse by users even today. In other words, they are the best in the world. Besides this much appreciated characteristic, the weapon is also easy to maintain and use.

okay thanks guys. i thought these would be full auto and maybe that would be the difference.
I think you misunderstood me. The rifles in the article are automatic/burst fire weapons and I am sure the 308 will also be such. I was referring to the fact that they already have a civilian AKM (Saiga) in 308 and civilian SVD (Tiger) in 308. I am surprised they have not made one sooner!

I didn't see anything in the article about 7.62x51. It did mention the 103 model in 7.62, but the 103 is 7.62x39.

there ya' go.....

Heck the .308 has been here for years---try the new 30.06!.....Yep 30.06!...and they have stated that they are trying to get the 7.62x54r AK model here this year (2009)...Oooo yea!

The .308 saiga long barrel was the BEST gun I have purchased in the last 10 years-- SUB 1" with iron sights with a new barrel with port surplus ammo...I use it for my primary deer gun--many have met there match with iron sites!...

For darn sure I'm going to get a couple more saiga's...12 gauge and a 30-06 or 5.45---how the heck can you beat the price and Russian quality.

My first 308 saiga's were only $307 OTD they were only $289 at the time and the saiga in 223 was only $259. I always said these were the hottest buy on the planet ever since the chinese norinco sks hit our shores and it still is to me anyway. Don't forget were buying a brand new russian izhmash saiga in a sporter wrapper that has the dependability and reliability of an ak47 plus its more accurate too.

yup the new saiga in 7,62x54r will be here by next summer they said. I hope its in black with a 16" barrel so it matches my 223 & 308 saiga's too.
