I've got a front sight marked NM on one side & NM 062 on the other.
Am I correct to assume NM = national match? and what's the 062 stand for?

Any info would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

It's a National Match "type" front sight.
The .062" is the width of the actual sight blade.
This is narrower than a service type sight.

thank you. It shouldn't make any difference with a service type rear sight.
No... Unless you intend to enter a JCG... then it's an illegal mod.

No I don't think I'll be entering a JCG anytime soon but I'll probably correct the sight for my rifle down the road - thank you

I think he means that when viewing the sight picture from the shooting position, the thinner blade does not blot out as much of the target, as a wider blade.

You are probably correct as to what he means...... but that assertion is based on a false premise.... i.e. that not blotting out as much target is a more accurate means of sighting. It's not.

Best to all,
