I have been looking to buy one of these off of one of the auction sites, but have been told that most of the M5s were modified/retrofitted to M5-1/M5A1 configuration...is that so? How can you tell without handling the weapon? By that I mean...can you tell from a picture? Price/value of M5 unmodified(if you will)? Thanks for your thoughts!

Check Sarco under edged weapons.They have both starting at 29.95.They also have some that run up in to the 40 plus range for rare makers.

I will post a pix of my M5 and M5A1. The only difference is the release button on the bottom.

Here is a pix of a M5 on bottom and the M5A1 on top. Only diference is the shape of the lever. Doubt that any effort was put into upgrading the old ones with plenty of M1 and M5A1s in store.

Thanks alot! I have seen the M5s sell for $50 to $75 in excellant condition...I can now, hopefully, choose wisely.
