I'm retired 2 years now. Went to lunch with my old electric shop buddies.We try to do something at my old job around the holidays. In any case my treck home runs me by the Gander Mountain store in the Rochester N.Y. area.Not looking for anything in particular,when I spotted two 91/30's for 99.95. The first one I picked up was a 1943 Izhevsk ex PU sniper.All stamped matching numbers except the magazine was forced matched.Stock was in excellent shape and the metal very good. I bought it.My collecting focus lately has been in .22 rimfires and thought I was cured of the Mosin Nagant bug.I guess not! Got home,cleaned it up.Has a very good bore and tight muzzle.The bayonet had the same stamped numbers. I'm pretty happy with it,but want to know when this sickness will end.Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

BTW, congrats on your find!
This is funny that you would post this. But, I went to my local Gander moutain and they are desperate to git rid of the 91/30s. So I talked to a guy there and he said he has about 25 more in the back and they marked them down to $79 or $82 otd. Being they were milsurp trash not worth of the fine ARs and hunting rifles of Gander Moutains standards they only had 5 out. 1943 Tula all matching. 3 1942 Izhevsk all matching. Plus the nice 1943 Tula ex PU that I purcased.
It was funny it was so busy that it took me an hour and a half to get all the paper work done. It was kind of funny I must of had 15 people come up to me and ask me what I had. I proundly said it was one of those fine WWII arms over there on the shelf. Then I would get some kind of remark on how it was to long for a deer blind and they wondered why I wanted such a soviet abomination. Sigh you have to love the ignorant sometimes.

i had to laugh, last weekend they had a sign up that read russian sniper rifles 99 dollars. they were just your average infintry rifles. tjm22shot54

I don't go there that often.What I have seen is M44's mostly and usually at 149.99 at that.They may have had 91/30's at one time or another,but these were the first ones I saw. Their sales flyer I saw in the store had M44's and sniper 91/30's.Like I said before one was and one wasn't. BTW I live in Bushnells Basin right along the Erie Canal.

Congrats to greyhair and Durus. Both of you scored some nice M91/30's. I try to stick to 1920's updated dragoons and 1930's hex receivers but I have a weakness for the ex-snipers as well as any Mosin Nagant with really unique serial numbers, rarer markings, or the well used varities if priced right.

What else did you really expect, from brainless liberal MORONS; whose idea of the Second Amendment is all about killing a defenseless animal. "If they can't use a rifle to shoot an unarmed deer, then let Obama ban it.
The hunters are the most SELFISH part of the gun owners' ranks. They don't give a damn about anybody else's rights as long as they can keep on killing. In fact, the Gun Control Lobby has even created a "hunters'" front group, that has declared war on the rest of us. They tried to recruit me too; but I was smart enough to check out some of their leaders, who turned out to be associates of Sarah Brady...

As a lifelong hunter who is passionate about 2nd Amendment (and all the others, for that matter) rights, I resent that. Anti-gunners are anti-gunners whether they hunt or not. Words like "defenseless animals" and "unarmed deer" are fightin' words, kemosabe.
I used to think that Deer were defenseless as well until one came barreling into my drivers side door on my truck causing "$1200" worth of damage. With a $1000 deductible it wasnt worth claiming as my rates would have skyrocketed. So now its open season for bambi as far as I say. However there are indeed tons of hunters like what cousinkix describes around my neck of the woods.

there was a 1942 tula marked as an ex-sniper at the gander mountain in traverse for 99.00. I didn't see any CH marks or any plugs in the receiver, but it looked nice. couldn't see the bore though. if I had room in my case, I would have looked much closer at it.

so did my hunting pardner until he was beat up by 2 does this season. one sent him in a cartwheel. they can kick. and yes his pants were up, he was trying to cut their throats.

The rifles have come to the Gander stores in boxes marked "Russian Sniper Rifle" -- it's not the stores' fault or that of the employees making the tags. The distributor (can check later if anyone is interested) has labeled them all "snipers" and most people at the store level don't know any better.
