I have had this rifle for awhile it is all matched and never been messed.I do not care that it is a rarer model. " I WANT JAPANESE MILITARIA". I do not want shity stuff. I am looking for the good stuff in nice shape. I have a good idea of the value of this rifle and expect a fair trade. The rifle will not be sold for cash. This is the only way I can get the good stuff out of your closets is by tradeing my good stuff. please trades only. John [email protected]

What are your thoughts in regards to its value? The blue book is $300.00. I know there are auctions (that are not selling) that are at $1300 but that is not the value many of us "collectors" put on them. If it were a 35M then you would be in the $1k+ range.

The blue book is a tool used by dealers to BUY from the unwashed public cheap, not sell to collectors.

Its all personal choice. If you want one, only you will know the value. I look at rarity, production numbers, history and condition. Chasdev, I disagree about book value. In "most" cases its a good indicator of value. I add 33% to the listed values to determine where I believe the true value to be.

Its all a matter of finding the right person who whats/needs your specific item.

Look up k98 Mauser.
The highest price quoted is under $1000 in new, unissued condition.
That includes all variations.
I rest my case.

Chadev,

Current market conditions do not dictate the long range prices for rifles. I do believe that there are examples that command a premium but just because Gunbroker or AA has examples that sell does no mean that they were wise purchases that will hold that value. Given your example, I am going to guess you are using the Std Catalog of Forearms, 3rd Edition. As I said earlier I believe these prices are roughly 33% off. In that case i do believe that a far price for an excellent condition all matching would be $1300 - $1400. Again, I don’t use "what they sell at auction" prices, rather a long range investment model that tracks the price points.

We are all entitled to our opinions and we decide what we want to buy and the market will dictate the price.

How about $1,200 for a mint unissued G33/40? I'd be happy to buy all of yours out there for $1,500!!!! I agree with Chas & have seen dealers use it to rip people off. Completely Worthless

I got a kick out of this thread, from USMCR's initial no BS post, to the very succinct and accurate discussion. USCMR laid it out there and there is no mistake as to what he wants and what he has.

USMCR, I have some Jap stuff. If these fine chaps can't come up with something, do let me know. Let the fellows first in line make have their go, and get to me last. Good to have you.
Regards,
HB

Although I haven't seen the "blue book", if it is anything like a blue book for vehicles then I agree with Chas, however, if it truely shows value of the item and no ... shall we say "trade in" ... then Ike is probably right and Chas is wrong.

Just because something is listed at $1300 and doesn't sell immediately doesn't mean it isn't worth $1300.

Now the jury shall find a verdict and deliver it to HB.
