Mein liebes Rosalchen!
Heute bin ich nun schon wieder wo anders,das Nest heisst Dubrowa liegt eine halbe Stunde von Turijsk, ich bin jetzt beim sogenanten Ochsenkom(m)ando. Ich habe einen Kameraden der auf Urlaub fährt abgelöst, ob es nun länger dauert oder ob es blos auf 14 Tage ist muss ich erst abwarten, jedenfalls bin ich froh dass ich nicht mehr d(ass) h(eisst) vorläufig, soviel mit den Russengefangenen zu tun habe, die Dre(c)kgesellschaft würde jetzt immer freger(= “frecher”: more insolent/brutal), hier haben wir auch 6 Russen dass ist aber nicht so schlimm da würgt (”würgen”: here in the sense of “to retch/to turn ones stomach”) man nicht so direkt darüber herum als bei 75 Mann. Wir sind hier 9 Mann da sind nicht soviel als wie in der Komp(anie) und dass ist jedenfalls schöner, na dass werde ich ja sehen, wir kochen uns selber haben auch Milch, wir holen das Vieh an der Bache ab und treiben es dann aus, hier wird es dann zum schlachten abgeholt.
Mir geht es soweit gut und hoffentlich gefällt es mir hier besser.
Inder Hoffnung, dass es dir liebes Rosalchen unseren kl(einen) Walter den Eltern, Else u(nd) Walter recht gut geht grüsst u(nd) küsst dich 1000 mal dein treuer Karl.

My dear Rosalchen!
Today I'm once again somewhere else, the place is called Dubrowa and is half an hour from Turijsk, I'm now on so called Oxendetail. I have a comrade that goes on leave that I've relieved, whether it will last longer or just be 14 days I'll have to wait and see, anyway I'm happy that I no more, that is for now, have so much with the russian POWs to do, this dirty company became ever more insolent, here we also have 6 russians though that is not so bad and does not turn your stomach as much as with 75 men. Here we are 9 men, that is not as many as in the company and that is better anyway, well I'll get to see, we cook for ourselves and we also have milk, we get the cattle by the brook and then drive it out, here it is picked up to be butchered. So far I'm fine, and hopefully I'll like it better here. In the hope that you, dear Rosalchen, our little Walter, the parents, Else and Walter are really fine your true Karl greets and kisses you a thousand times.
