Why do you always post auctions?

There were 501 fm23's made . Some have the extra 3 digit numbers matched and others do not match . We can't really figure what was going on there . There seem to be a number of M96 rifles with the extra 3 digits . These look like they were never made into fm23's , like the one above in the auction .

Here is one that I have dated 1924 with matching 3 digit numbers . There is no barrel cartouche to indicate that the barrel was replaced . So , I assume it is an original M96 as it came from the factory . It has been stained dark in the post WW2 time period , but not rebuilt .

I see no problem in learning, we are all here to do that. What I don't like to see is someone who always posts links to auctions. Some people put in good amounts of time pruning thru auctions, hoping to get a good deal. I see it as their reward for research. And maybe, just maybe, they squeak one thru when no one is looking. Again, good on them.

But it's all for nothing when there is a place where someone can see postings to all the good auctions. Why would there be any incentive to do your own work and looking for things?

If you want to share something about a gun or piece of militaria, why not post a picture of what you see and leave the auction anonymous? We can still learn that way. Expired auctions and even current auctions with pics copied over, no direct links are posted about very often. Many with questions about why for the price? Something special? General questions about an item? Specific questions about an item? The point still gets across and the learning still takes place.

A long time ago, auctions were allowed here, but in much less frequency and it was meant to drive home a specific point. Something that was felt to be a very good lesson on something. Now, it just seems to be that auctions get posted as, Hey check out this one! Where is the lesson? Where is the question?

This has been something that has bothered me for some time. I've even sent a note to Dutch about this. I just feel that I need to speak my peace about it.

The other day I responded to a thread that was started by bones92, he was asking about a rifle that had a range decal on the left side of the stock. By coincidence I found the same rifle on an auction site and posted the picture to contribute to the thread no picture of a rifle with a left side range decal was shown previously on bones92's thread. Afterwards I felt bad about it, I did not think about that bones92 was probably participating in that auction and just wanted to cover his bases???
Sean has a point chasing a rifle or part in an auction is part of the fun to make that auction more public gives the participants a disadvantage and the seller more of an advantage.
Markm1 has a point as well sometimes certain rifles will rarely seen again or even seen at all. Hopefully we can find a compromise?!
Why not wait until the auction is over and then bring it up? So will have both parties their fun?

Sean, I understand your concern. But at the end of the day, isn't the person most willing and able to sacrifice his hard earned money worthy of taking home the prize? We have all benefited from these posts, including you and me. I am grateful for them and never resentful when someone else walks away with a good deal.

I hope the moderators do not change the policy as I think it is a great asset to this forum.

It's not a subject open to discussion. The forum policy is set by the forum owners. Apparently you're having a hard time accepting our policy as you wrote me privately about it a few weeks ago. I told you then and I'll repeat it that I (and we) do not have a problem with it. If I or the other moderators have a problem with a particular auction link we'll deal with it. I did that recently with one that I felt was out of order.

Please... do not hijack topics with opinions of our forum policy. It has worked exceptionally well for this forum and it's going to stay that way.

From the looong time posted forum rules:

In this forum we allow links to active auctions mostly for educational
purpose, to illustrate or demonstrate some area that relates to collecting
Swedish military firearms and militaria. Sometimes it goes a little
beyond that but the spirit of this activity is that it helps teach us all.
As long as we don't stray too far from this intent things will continue
as they have. Sometimes auctions can be very entertaining.
Be advised that the tone, direction and content of this forum is
purely at the discretion of the forum owners & moderators.
topic closed/end of discussion.
