So, I just got done cleaning and pampering my brand spankin new Mosin, and I did a very bad thing. I somehow managed to leave the trigger hinge pin out after I've cleaned it. Long story and hundreds of bad words later, I've managed to get my bolt back in, but I can't dis-lodge it to remove the bolts to replace the pin. I'm feeling very stupid, very screwed, and in desperate need of help. I really want to take care of my new baby, but I might need to turn it in to Mosin protective services!
Model is a 1942 version. Any help or adivice is GREATLY appreciated.

Sadly, I've tried that already. Something else is stuck. I've pushed in with a flathead screwdriver, gently, to see if i could feel anything. So far, no luck, but I haven't been too rough with it yet either. I'll keep trying. Either way, thanks for the help.
Oh, and if anyone has any way of de-cocking the bolt so I can unscrew the back bolt to the barrel, I should be able to fix it too.

Problem is, the trigger is hanging loose. There's no friction until I get the bolt all the way back, then it snaps forward, and no amount of de-pressing will let me slide the bolt back. It's catching then, I can feel the trigger slightly pull it forward, but it won't depress or release the bolt. I'm really confused as to 1) how we got it back on and 2) where I went wrong.

I had a similar problem but with a 1917 enfield so this may not be helpful to you. The bolt had been assembled wrong and the trigger put in without the spring which locked the bolt in place (not done by me)...we took it all apart and removed the trigger and the bolt came right out. The camming surfaces on the trigger were what jammed it.

What ever the problem is, you can take comfort in the knowledge that you are NOT the first person it's happened to and probably someone can give you good guidance.
Good luck, having a new, jammed up rifle sucks.

I appreciate the help, but the biggest problem is my inability to remove the bolt to take the rifle apart. I think I know exactly what the problem is, the frustrating part is my inability to fix it.

I've been trying to play with mine and the only thing i can think of is to see if someone can hold the cocking knob back while you try to depress the sear (I guess) with a flat screwdriver? I've not been successful in doing so but it feels like a 3 hand job.

Yeah, I figured it out... finally. It took some serious patience and a small/strong screwdriver. I was able to unscrew the bolt under the firing bolt and get it off. Either way, it's done, and I GREATLY appreciate the help. I'm looking forward to years of beating the tar, lovingly, out of this rifle.

Glad to hear you figured it out. I'm not sure what you unscrewed but all that needed to be done to correct it was to take the action out of the stock and unscrew the sear retaining screw to remove the trigger and sear.

At surplusrifle.com they have nice takedown guide to use the first few times that you clean and service your rifle. I did a similar thing with my 1903 and the guide helped me figure out what I had done wrong.

Hi Tolman8r,

WELCOME to the club!

To become a card carring member, you have to screw up two more firearms & repair them by YOURSELF!.

This will get you the SECRET handshake & other member perks!

In my case:
1- M/N Trigger pin - like you - fix little grease on pin
2- Ruger Mark II reassembly -UNDERSTAND & carry out the clear instuctions
3- assemble SKS - install trigger group - Pull bolt back FIRST! You dummy
4- Reassemble C-96 Mauser - set parts up properly to slid into framel

All the best to you,
point6

PS it took three days for me to get the C-96 back together the first time!

I had to put it down & walk away from it. I was so annoyed at myself!
YES it is VERY eazy operation, once you do it a few times. Some are eazier to assemble than others for some reason. This one is still the worst to fool with some thing is always moving out of place.

Among other things:

Reassembled bolt carrier group on M2 .50 cal and spent about 20 minutes figuring out how to do it properly so it would fit in weapon. Then finished it up and after sliding back plate on realized I had spare parts and had to open her up and insert recoil spring assembly.

Discovered that the recoil spring cap on the m1911 .45 cal can hit you with force and leave a nice red mark on forehead for buddies to comment about. Do not let finger slip off when pushing down to install retainer piece.

Was playing with the bolt of my new m91 mosin and discovered that the bolt head will fall to the floor when you twist the cocking handle a certain way. Took several minutes of deep concern to get it back together the right way.

I have more. Can I get my card?:D
