Nice find, Looks to be a Japanese Type 35 Rifle, with Finnish Markings, the 'S' stamp with the numbers on the buttstock. I have a Finnish Marked Type 30, and Type 38, both have the 'S' stamp and numbers on the buttstock. I have a Type 35 from Finland, but it isn't Finnish Marked. Hope that helps, Trey

Here are some additional links for the markings:

I'm no expert, but look on the Military Rifle Journal website and look at the chapter named Finnish Arisakas and tell me if you don't think this is a Finnish Type 35 Arisaka rifle in rather nice condition. $30, huh? Some people..... Best Wishes, Walt

You underpaid by about $800-$1100. I'd play lotto tonight! The Type-35 is one of my favorite guns because of it's naval origins it's sorta an oddity in the Arisaka world. It was the basis of the Type 38 and briged the Type30 and Type38. Not many made and even fewer left by 1945. Fantastic find! Brett

Thanks for sharing your recent Type 35 rifle buy with us. Can you tell us a bit about the gun laws in Sweden that relate to rifle purchases?
