I picked up a Finnish M39 VKT which has VKT,76301,1944 on the barrel, 6301 ,T on bolt and on the side of the sight base 86432.
Any idea of the sight base serial number meaning?
What other areas should be looked at for further numbers?
Thanks!

Thanks! Floorplate number is 3613 and I couldn't find one on the buttplate. I assume from your comments all of them are mixmasters. How do you tell who made the receiver.
Regards!

if i remember correctly i think i heard somewhere that the reason buttplates and floorplates never match on finns (we aren't counting finn captures) is the finns never cared to mark those pieces as one would fit the other just fine every time... bolts however were numbered to match because of that magical thing we call headspace

I think it can be debated if SAKO numbered these when first produced. VKT did but SAKO might not have - at least might not have from the start. In regards to the M39......

Some more markings not all covered in the data photos:
bolt circle w/ T inside-Tula
bolt what looks like the greek phi - oval w/ a line vertically through it at base of bolt handle, cyrillic F?
bottom of receiver 1916 & T Tula

+
297
symbol looking like a 3 tong pitchfork, cyrillic sh or shch?
297

Any ideas on the bottom 4 lines above and the oval and what they might indicate?
Thanks
