- Some of the Finnish 7.62mm M-24 bolt-action rifles have a heavy stepped barrel. If somebody has this type of rifle with a stepped barrel, I need some help. Please measure carefully these two dimensions and post them here:
1) The distance measured between the barrel step and the rear side of the front sight post;
2) The distance measured between the front side of the front sight post and the muzzle.
I know that the distance measured between the barrel step and the muzzle is 3-inches (76.2 mm). Many thanks in advance for any help, Lido 03/18/12

1) 1.5380"

2) 1.0435"

By the way, what's your point? You ask us for info, but don't give a reason. Just curious.

- @ Flyin Brian & rocker98: Thank you both for your help with the barrel measurements. Recently I got a Russian made (Tula arsenal) M1891 socket bayonet (the variant with median locking ring, not the press catch) which had been modified during the 1920s in Finland in order to fit the Finnish M-24 bolt-action rifle with the stepped barrel. I needed to have all the dimensions of the stepped barrel (between the barrel step and muzzle). You also can see my topic "M91/24 socket bayonet" here at http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?256065-M91-24-socket-bayonet Thanks again for the help, Lido 03/21/12 P.S. I collect socket bayonets and the M91/24 bayonet is a rare piece.

- @ Flyin Brian & rocker98: I have one more question to ask regarding the stepped barrel of the Finnish M-24 bolt-action rifle: is the distance measured between the barrel step and the muzzle exactly 3.0" (76.2 mm) ???? If not, what is that precise distance ???? Many thanks in advance for your help, Lido 03/22/12 P.S. According with the dimensions which are given here at http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinBarrel.htm see "Finnish Stepped M91/24", the measured distance between the barrel step and the muzzle (Finnish M-24 rifle) is 3.0" (76.2 mm). I want to know if the distance of 3.0" (76.2 mm) is correct or not.

---> Note: Here at http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinBarrel.htm (see "Finnish Stepped M91/24") the distance between the barrel step and the muzzle is given as 3.0" (76.2 mm). I want to make sure if the distance of 3.0" (76.2 mm) is correct or not.
Thanks again, Lido 03/22/12

3.0505 is what I come up with. You will get different measurements with different instruments, of course.
