The "As Issued Military Rifle Match" was conducted today at Quantico Shooting Club and not a Mosin showed.

You all missed a awesome day of shooting on a world class rifle range.

I will post the next match and I hope we get some guys to email me they will attend and
we can get a squad of Finn / Mosin shooters up on the line and give the Garand / 03 guys a hard
run !

If anyone is interested , pls email me and I will fill you in on these matches. All you need is 35 rounds per match,
your rifle and thats it. You don't need some wazzoo shooting jacket, mega range scope, stool, cart etc etc. A shooting
matt helps and if you don't have one, you can borrow mine.

Lets get a Mosin Squad from the board for the next match ~

I will be honored to do so.

I just sent you a PM.

Its easy to get onto Quantico base for the matches and guest match fee is $10. Pretty good bargain
for all day on such a world class range !!

I hope more guys contact me. This is one great shooting experience.

Finn Addict: email me please. 15 April is next match.

TuLa MaN: On rapid fire, you stand with bolt open and 5 rds in the mag, drop to prone , Run Bolt forward to load first round and begin engaging target, then reload once with a 5 rd recharger for this event.

I ran the match yesterday with a No.5 Jungle carbine and it was a snap. I had plenty of time on rapid to rack that bolt and acquire target. I ran a 94 in rapid fire.

I got to do a bit of dry fire and dummy round work on my M39 before I am ready for rapid fire with it. That is not a weapon issue but operator issue which I think I can fix... sure will try to master that and see no reason why not.

Okay another word here: so lets say you show up with a sniper bolt in your Mosin... no big deal, you can shoot. There are no prizes or points with these matches. They run a CMP like format and they are matches to perfect your skill sets. One guy showed up with a M1A which is not vintage but he shot the match as the matches are run with marksmanship in mind. I have routinely showed up with a MAS 36 that I have tweeked the trigger and shimmed: its not original "as issued" but I shoot it and enjoy the matches. The competition is how well can you shoot.. push yourself and its a great event.

The match is held on a "KD" range. Every firing order pulls PIT duty and scores / shot results are passed back to you. That feed back lets you adjust sights, adjust for winds, elevation etc etc. Great Event.

milprileb, so the restriction on 7.62x54R ammo is no longer in place, I assume.

I was looking forward to trying to make it to a Quantico match, but I switched to a different IMA det and will no longer be going to Quantico on a regular basis.

Bones92: That is confirmed: the restriction on 7.62x54R and 7.62x39mm is no longer in place. Absolutely confirmed.

If you know of any folks who want to come up and shoot, please pass word about these matches.

Will there be 1000 yard targets? I am getting tired of "Snipers" on various TV shows showing they can hit 1000 meter targets with match ammo scoped bedded rifles spotters wind gauges calculators etc when it something I can probably do with a random mosin and surplus ammo. (Have done so with a M14 off the unit rack 40 years ago so I'd give it a try with a mosin if I can still see the target)

There are no videos but the format is on the website and describes the 15 April event.
Go here: https://www.google.com/calendar/ren...uY29t&ctz=America/New_York&sf=true&output=xml

This particular 15 April match is 200 yds. If you want to go to 1000, you'll have to contact me and be my
guest when the club opens a 100 to 1000 yd shooting recreation range day. Usually I won't know till they post it sometime on Friday. Email me if interested. We start at 100, then move to 300, to 600 and to 1000. You must bring your own target and target stand for this and it can't be metal.

Now I am going to plug the Quantico Shooting Club: if you live close enough to travel to it: Where can you find ranges that go to 1000 yds and available ? Few and far between is the answer. Quantico Club can gain you access so any and all wanting to join should give it some serious thought.

I will be happy to bring anyone to a club range recreation event , the club charges $10 for guests.

But... the intent of my post was to draw military rifle shooters, Mosin shooters to our April 15 "as issued military rifle " fire. We just had one and began at 0800 and finished at 1600 hrs and it was great shooting !

Parting shot: yeah, I am sick of the TV hoopla over 1000 yds being something mystic to shoot like jkaler48 stated. Guys do it all the time here with scopes. Palma guys do it all the time here with iron sights. I plan to do it with a No.4 Enfield. The long pole in the tent for 1000 yd shooting is having a place and chance to do it and get your skills / equipment up to par for that distance. I am not saying its not a challenge with iron sights now... I am saying I don't see why I or anyone else can't do it with some determination and practice / hard work.

When you prep your Mosin for rapid fire, do test extensively the reloading of five rounds from a stripper clip in position.

Some stripper clips tend to push down too far past the ejector(?)/interrupter spring. If this happens in rapid fire you are screwed. To prevent this, use needlenose pliers or similar to bend the edge of the clip outward to make the base wider so it can not get past the ejector spring as that is the only thing stopping it from falling in all the way into the magazine.

I only use so modified and marked clips and have not had a problem in rapid fire since such modification.

Good luck and do post results, please. Too far for me to travel at this point.
