There's a bit of a debate going on right now on another gun forum about the price of a Finn Model 28. Its descibed as VG wood and bore. I'm posting the link to the pics of this rifle. What do the experts think (I know this is based on very few details) - is it worth the asking price of $695 CDN? (about the same in USD.)

Apparently these are very rare in Canada. What about the USA?

An M28 goes for $300 to $400 from a seller who knows what it is because that's about as much one is worth to a buyer who knows what it is and wants to buy it.

I'll be nice and not tease you with the prices that an M28 can be be bought for from a seller who doesn't know what one is...

It's hard to say seeing as I don't know the Canadian market for these. It's always baffled me that the M28 is only 50 dollars more than an M39. It's very well worth 600 dollars and some day the market will reflect this. Equilibrium will be found.

The going rate is $300/$400., but I agree w/Gorbachev they are considerably rarer than the M39 should put them "MUCH" higher than they are presently going-SDH

I think that the current going price makes the m28's a great buy - especially when you look at numbers remaining.
As a shooter I think the m28/30 and the m39 are better - and that might reflect in the small price difference between the m39 and m28, even though I'd say that more often than not the price difference between similar condition rifles are more than $50
Not saying anything about the historical interest - which to me is higher than for a m39, I'd still disagree about the $600 value for the m28, at least here in the US. Like Gorbachev wrote - don't quite know what the prices are in Canada for Finn rifles though

Compared to m39 prices, it should be worth that considering relative rarity. realistically, they only sell for about half that. That's in the U.S. though.
Now is a great time to buy the m27 or m28 considering the prices they go for. That one looks to be in great shape, too. I don't know the market in Canada, but in the states a little shopping around and patience would get you a better price.
In case my first sentence may be misread, comparing the price to m39 prices may be an act of lunacy because the m39 prices have been artificially inflated for the last several years.

I would have paid that also - Correct serial # range or not - Very hard to find stock!

I am new to Mosin collecting, but have seen this comment or similar on this board many times. I too think that the M27 and M28 are under priced. I am curious about the comment that M39s are "artificially" inflated though. I have a hard time believing it will be possible to purchase an M39 in 5-10 years for a price lower than today's price. They still seem undervalued to me when compared to other military surplus guns, particularly US guns. So, to me the M39 does not look "artificially inflated" in price or even inflated in price at all. I simply think that the M27 and M28 are under appreciated and under valued. In fair disclosure, I own 5 M39s and 2 M27s. Sorry for the thread drift.

Supply and demand. If they are not around in the great white north then the price goes up. And vice versa. I think it is high personally.

I think the members are alluding to the fact that one certain "ex" dealer bought up the remaining supply of M-39's some years ago and is now controlling the market.

I think you did pretty good on that one - double slingslot m28's in decent condition are hard to find. With the "right" CG districtnumber I would have happily paid up to $450 for one like yours

Keep hitting the shows, pawnshops, and trade-in racks at the gun stores.
I've never paid more than $250.00 for an M28. (I will add that I'm no stickler for only buying pristine VGC+ Finns though) Its a lot harder to do now than it was 10 years ago for sure, but 28s and 27s are still out there.
If you spend $425.00, then its either a 100% specimen or you just "had to have it." - Which I've fallen prey to myself on other rifles.
