Perhaps doing so, and in the process shutting down a multi billion dollar industry, might prompt Congress to take a closer look at the Arms Export Control Act thingie and consider if it was a wise idea to hand over vast powers to the Executive branch via the ATF.

This is a bit off topic, but I work in energy research, primarily with the conversion of coal. The steel industry is toast because of the labor differential, unskilled Chinese work for a lot less than a union steel worker will. China also has a lot of useable Iron ore (we are stuck with less than desirable deposits like taconite), and lots of coal to make coke, so they naturally have huge steel industry. The environmental issue plays a part too, but its not without some merit. There are days in Beijing when aircraft have to be diverted because there is so much particulate in the air that it will damage turbine blades. China is an example of too little to too corrupt when it comes to environmental regulation. You have to clean up the mess you make, bar non.

Coal power is in trouble because the EPA labeled CO2 as "hazardous to human life" never mind that it is necessary for life on earth to exist. They have also managed to all but end cement production in the US, cement kilns cannot meet the same regulations as the power industry so one by one they are being shut down. This is huge mistake.

There has to be some balance between industrial production, and regulation. The EPA is NOT the right organization to determine that balance, that is a clear conflict of interest. Our president is also NOT even remotely qualified to make the decision either. Our last Secretary of Energy was also completely incompetent, and held the entire industry up during his tenure with his poor foresight and indecision.
