I have a really good condition WWII German helmet.
It had no decals. (late war)
I have had it since the late 60's.
Unfortunately, in my foolish youth, I decided to remedy the decal "problem" and placed repo water transfer ones onboard.
I would like to undo my mistake.
Looking for guidance on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

I would try water-based methods only, and no scrubbing. The action needed is to lift the decals off, not to rub them off. If an extended soaking in very warm water alone (maybe a wet washcloth lying on decal) does nothing, I believe you would be safe with adding a little Dawn or Palmolive dish soap and making the water hot might help. It may take some time and numerous applications to get everything off. Do not rub or you will have a worn spot. If the helmet is dirty, remember if you do have to resort to a dish soap, you may need to clean the entire helmet to fade-in the now clean spots. Try just very warm water on a washcloth first.
