Mine are black chekerd and seem to be made of a hard rubber. I thought they
were made of hard plastic. Thanks for any info.

Thanks, I'm kind of new to the maks and am trying to find out about it.
It was made in 1960 I'm guessing from the 60 stamped on the frame.

Correct, the 60 indicates date of manufacture. Look at the descriptions and photos posted on Makarov.com and you'll be up to speed.

DDR/East German Makarov grips are made of Bakelite, an early form of plastic, Thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin. Sometimes a filler was added as wood flour in the manufacturing of the item. One note about Bakelite, unlike styrene or the other modern plastics, it cannot be ground into small pieces and reused or remolded. As for the DDR lanyard, the grips never had the staple as we see on Russian, Bulgarian, or the Chinese. They did have two different types of attachment, one: a cord type of lanyard and a steel attachment inside the grip with the lanyard running out of the bottom of the grip next to the magazine release, Two: a hole was drilled in the back of the grip and the cord lanyard was just knoted and run out thru the hole.

May I ask what you paid for it?

60-65 EG Maks aren't that hard to find, 59's are rare. So far there have been no 58's show up only a couple of pictures of them.

Thanks guys. I'm still looking for a original grip for it. The one thats
on it is some kind of hard rubber. Anyon know what the V with 3 dots
around it means? Probably some sort of inspectors mark.
