I've had the East German Makarov for quite a while. Got it from SOG when they were first imported and under $150 each.

Anyway, it came with the green painted number 137. Anyone else seen one like this ?

I suppose it a badge number, rack or inventory number ? It seems I could flake it off with my thumbnail but something keeps me from doing so. I guess I just like it.

Most likely a rack number. I have one with the same color, same position as yours!! Will have to dig it up and post a picture.

I also have one with a painted number, same area as yours only mine has white paint. I can go along with the rack theory as mine is in Mint condition, even the hammer face has 100% of the blue. Just a shadow line where the safety has been moved. Importer: CAI St. Albans, VT./ Century Arms Inc.

I also got one early from SOG had a red 9 on it, wasn't in the best condition so it went on down the road.
