Anyone remember this stuff? Came in a clear sort of blister pack with a paper back, 10 rounds per pack. I'm curious as to why this will cycle an AK47 but not an SKS. My wife loved shooting this stuff due to the low recoil.

On the back the paper is stamped with "10 Stuck" (with the .. over the letter u) and "M43 Ub" or something that looks like a "U" anyway. Definitely German. But yes, the projectile is steel with a nylon core. Fun to shoot, good to about 100 yards or so, very low recoil. I read that when the Marines went into Grenada in the 80's that the "construction workers" were shooting this range ammo at them. Not sure if it's true or not, but apparently there was a training base there and there were many magazines loaded with this stuff. I found this photo online..

It's fun to shoot, my wife loved it. I have 1600 rounds of the stuff, but wife doesn't go rifle shooting much these days. Decent short range ammo, probably great against zombies that are getting close.. Worked in any AK I've ever had, but it turns an SKS into a straight pull bolt action rifle.

The AK is a long stroke gas system, the SKS uses a short stroke system. The AK system is better at running reduced loads because even at reduced loads the system is being driven by the gases, the SKS system opens the action and the rest is driven by gases in the barrel and recoil and is not as good at running reduced loads. In short the AK system is alittle more reliable when it comes to varying loads, the SKS needs a cartridge within a spec to run right.

I've owned only 1 SKS that would cycle these rounds with any regularity, most AK will run them although it feels like the gun is operating in slow motion ;) I still have about half a case left, that and the air core 762x54r are great as teaching aid.

i used to have a a lot of it. Everything said already is true. BUt It is Corrosive! After you shoot it in your AK, use some Windex(Ammonia based) to clean the BOLT Face, Gas Tube inside, and gas port in the front. If you dont, a ton of RUst Will appear very soon! Yes, it would be good at close range. But it will Penetrate at close range even these cheap walls today. Not accurate past 50 yards.

I have an SKS that eats the platik core stuff like it does ball ammo.
I was out this weekend with my 10 & 11 year old niece & nephew and let them shoot the AK first with the platik core and then ball ammo. First time I'd shot this chicom folding stock since I got it. It was throwing the plastik core cases farther than the chicom ball cases.

Tony C - email me, I'm interested in your training ammo.

I bought several thousand rds of the e German blanks back when they were around cheap. I occasionally do Viet Nam re-enacting so stocked up. I wish I had bought more of the indoor range training ammo.

Hi,,,, I realize that this is a very old post but have been trying to identify some 7.62x39 ammo in ten rd "Blister Packs" with cardboard back. (Packaging) looks like the photo in this post BUT the ammo is completely different,,, please see my Photo below. Is this the steel core encased in (Lead) and (FMJ) copper jacketed? I am treating this ammo as if it is corrosive but would like to know if anyone here has any thoughts on this? In addition; I have had this ammo for probably 35+ yrs. thanks, Walt~

So you have the M43 "Ub" short range or the regular East German M43. Both should be corrosive.

I don't know the bullet construction of the short range ammo, but if I recall correctly the M43 has a mild steel core.
