Picked up a wonderful Browning Auto 5 yesterday at a pawn shop for $130 out the door and today I'm attempting to clean it. So far, I can't get the carrier screws to budge, they're already a bit stripped from somebody taking it apart before so I don't want to ruin them anymore than they are.

It's a new beast to me, and I can't find anything on this so I figured to ask everyone here on what to do.

Thanks in advance,

Well, first thing is to have a screwdriver that fits EXACTLY into the screw slots. After that, use all the "usual tricks".

Try soaking in a mix of 2 parts penetrating oil to 1 part acetone, covering with aluminum foil to limit evaporation. The very thin acetone will carry the oil in, and dissolve any gunk. A day should do it. Then use a little hand impact driver with a bit ground to fit the screws, being careful to support it properly.

BTW you have no idea what percentage of guns have messed up screw heads because the owners were either NOT knowledgeable (polite form of "dumb") or were in too much of a hurry to get the right screwdriver.
