I can't get a positive answer on what states allow automatic weapons and which don't. Is there a GOOD website out there?

No, that is not a dumb question at all. This site will tell you state by state what NFA weapons are allowed, it's hasn't been updated, as kansas recently allows ownership of MG, supprersors, SBS

Thanx--but, this can't be right. It looks like 40 states allow private ownership of MG's. I know only 5 or 6 do. CA is down as allowing with rarely-issued permit. iI know this is untrue. Only cops, security guards, etc, may possess, and they can't Own it--it must belong to the dept. also, I don't see a reference to the 9th ct. ruling--I'll try to email the writer. Another Dumb one--what is C&R--Curios and relics? Pre-1898 and/or a pattern before 1898?

A C&R license allows you to transfer NFA weapon directly without going through a Class III dealer from out of state. C&R NFA (receivers were original as is) cost more than non-C&R(tube gun, side plate gun, re-manufactured/re-weld, etc.).

Yes, kali does allow private ownership of FAs! However most cannot afford to meet the requirements they have on security and most police agencies in kali will not sign the form 4 so you can buy one. The regs are over ½" thick.
40 would be about right now with Kansas and another state (?) recently allowing them.
C&R is all weapons made between 1899 and about 1955. Antiques are all made 1898 or before. Any new receiver made post 1955 or such is considered a modern firearm, such as any FAs with a new made receiver.
