Hello all. I'm pretty sure that there were different styles of the overseas cap during WWI. One had the rounded "peaks" and the other had pointed ones. As for the shoes/boots on his pack. He could have just arrived in theatre and be moving to the front.

That was from an American Rifleman this past year, summer IIRC.

And I still think it's the swept back style on backwards.:rolleyes:
