My understanding these are rebuilt Brazilian 1908 Mauser rifles. I have one that has a few WW2 German parts. I think there was a long rifle and a short rifle. Others will help out on this. ed

Mauserdad is right on from what I know.

They are designated as a model 1908/53.
The D.R. bought 1908 and 1908/34 rifles and short rifles and reworked them.
Many of them have turned up with none Brazilian parts, maybe the D.R. bought the parts surplus or maybe they got them from Brazil, I don't know.

They must have started the rebuild program on the short rifles around 1954 or 55 because I have a short rifle dated 1955 and its serial number is 14X, the latest one I have heard about was either 1962 or 63.

The calibers also vary, some are in 7mm and others are in 30-06.
If you do a search on gunboards you should find some more info but there really isn't a lot known about them as far as I know.
