Discolored pistol grip

My Colt M-4 wa received with a whitish type stain on the pistol grip. Is there any way to remove this or cover it up? SOG tells me I have to send the rifle back, they won't send parts. I could just live with it, or is there a source for a new grip? Thanks for any help.
