I know the place well. Been there for a long time. I suspect that he would bargain a bit on the prices although I know presently that, by the crate, regular refurbs are costing the dealers 80 dollars each and 10 dollars more for hex receivers so those prices, at least on the 91/30's, may not be too far out of whack, at least in upstate PA where they are not real plentiful. T53's and 44's are costing the dealers more also but I am not sure how much more.

I think you can personally choose for all hex and pay a couple dollars more but you can find a couple (varies per crate) of hex receivers in a crate of rounds as well. So I don't know why they would specify for hex to pay more. I also think that the $1600 is after tax for them so before taxes its closer to 75 a mosin.

But if he can make the $55 on each mosin more power to him.

Yeah the prices aren't the lowest for sure. Saw T53's over the weekend at a show for $125. As far as the last time I saw 91/30's ordered they could care less about hex or round and the case price retail goes around $75 out the door. Seen quite a few M44's recently for in the $200 range too. For people who are on a light diet of refurbs they might be what you have to buy them at but for some who look around and buy online unless there is something there to catch your eye not worth looking into really.
Most everyone on here has enough knowledge to know where to look and find what they are looking for and frankly when I find a honey-hole I think it wise to keep my mouth shut and partake of the honey because if the dealer sells slow he is more likely to give me a better buy to move merchandise and stay in business. I find little enough these days that makes me look twice.

It's hard to call something overpriced when you can pick it up, look it over and make the decision to put it down or take it home. Prices posted on a board can easily bring " I've seen cheaper " comments but it's a bit different when you have the opportunity to look it or 6 over and make a choice. It may not be long before we call these the good old days. BTW, he's a stand up guy, (No hidden agenda or benefit for saying it either) and I will always feel better giving a few extra bucks for honesty and integrity. . As I would do to some that I have do business with here as well.

I think we all need to keep in mind that as the world of Mosin Nagant collectors expands the prices will be driven by what the market will bear.......and this applies at all levels. There is increasing interest in them, driven partially by forums such as this one. Free enterprise, which we all still enjoy, will decide on what the prices will be. When they get too high they will come back down as things always do. When something sells then the price is what someone is willing to pay. When something won't sell maybe the price is too high. I personally never like to pay what they are worth or what the asking price is. I simply have to get it cheaper............or at least be led to think I got it on the cheap. As for me living in an area where any models are not too prevelant I always like to hear where there might be a store of them. I always look at auction sale bills looking for that magic word or words that tells me I may want to spend a couple of hours there. Let's lighten up and remember that something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone gets a case of the wants it reflects on the selling price big time. Just my two cents. Go ahead and whack away at me.

The report for the group is appreciated kstrads and as many have reported it is nice to be able to pick and choose amongst many to get what you'd like. It is though as an explanation to generally not announce a "honey hole" as many times it's a members "home shop" and the exsposure taints it.
Cost is always relative and depending where you live it can be high in some areas and low for others. Your focus as as long time collector can also affect your price scale as well. Id pay more to fill a certain hole or walk away on a common piece because its too high and i already have one for example.

Kstrads take your flack jacket off! I apologize for being rough on you although as I said don't take it personal. As I mentioned being an oldtimer now makes me jaded and I guess I should have done just as offered said nothing. It just seems counter productive to making any bigtime finds or such if one keeps telling everyone what you find and where and what price. I run a regular route of spots I hit and I don't think I have ever told anyone what it is and where I look. It would surprise many people what my stops are so I keep them to myself. A couple of them would for sure be tainted if others showed up there so I kind of think it wise to keep it to myself.

Announce away and enjoy yourself if that is your wishes, but when you find nothing there everytime you look just remember who told the tale. Good Luck looking and finding for others too I guess. Bill
