My girlfriend got one for $115 at a little shop in Central PA a couple of years ago.....the guy behind the counter called it an "Eastern Bloc throwaway Commie junker"....so she happily pulled out her credit card...then showed him her 10 round Bakial and I showed him my Satin Nickel IJ .380. =-) We were happy to say the least...

Its been several years ago at this point, but the 3rd or 4th Makarov I ever bought was a Suhl, new in box. I was travelling for work thru lower SC and saw a small gunshop. Stopped and looked around for a few, and saw a Makarov sitting on a blue box on the back shelf. I asked the guy what he had, and he said, "Oh I can't sell that one to you, I ordered a 9mm and they sent me some Russian POS, I'm gonna send it back" I asked to look at it anyway, and he let me. I asked him what he wanted for it, and he tried his level best to talk me out of it...Kept telling me I couldn't get ammo for it, spare parts could never be found, it wasn't safe, he woul,d feel bad if I tried to fire "regular" 9mm in it, etc etc.....I finally told him that I had another pistol in the same caliber, and had some of the correct ammo. He finally broke down and told me I could have it for what he had in it, $89 bucks plus $12 in shipping. Sad part was I didn't have enough cash on me, and he didn't take credit cards. I asked him to hold it while I went and found a ATM, and he said, "If you don't want it, just say so" I gave him about $22 bucks to hold it, all the cash I had on me at the time...drove around for about an hour looking for an ATM, and than took me another 45 mins to find his shop again...but I finally got it. Brand new, unfired in the original box. And Yes I still have it, and its in the same condition as when it left that shop. And no its not for sale.

Wow! That read was agonizing toward the end! I know you said it was the the 3rd or 4th Maks you had owned, but as the story went on, I thought for a second that it was another story of the one that had got away from you. View attachment 72517 But I remembered you had gotten it in an earlier statement. Phew! My first Makarov cost me $50 and a lifetime addiction, one I will likely take to the grave. I will not get rid of my first either. It is my daily carry choice. So, now that you have a nice gun to coincide with your handle "Makarov_EG", are you going shoot it? What kind of condition is it in? We need answers and pics Mister.

I've never even seen one in the flesh.

If I didn't know you guys so well I would swear the Suhls are kinda like snipes.

Very nice firearm! Glad to see that somebody finally got a break from these prices.
Thanks Wicked Ajax, I can't believe how much they are going for at the gunshows, and on the auction websites.

Do you think I should test fire her? lol

Does anyone know how many Simson Suhl's were manufactured? Slim? NorthBender? Anyone?

Thanks,

NICE! Tempting to make it a safe queen, but if it was mine, it would get at least one outing to the range. I took my PM to the range one time, put maybe 100 rounds through it, came home and cleaned it, then locked it away. I'll probably never shoot it again, but it was really sweet that one time. It gets fondled a lot still, as I'm sure that sweet Suhl will!
