Here some important dates concerning m/96 and when different styles of sights was allowed to be used in competition within FSR.
1897. m/96 first tested among 165 shooters at "Riksskyttetävlingen 1897" in Stockholm. Special event sponsored by "AB Svenska Krutfaktorierna". The company provided rifles and sold ammunition at the competition.
1900. m/96 allowed to be used in competition for "Statens Pris" (the government prize).
1901. 2000 out of 5000 promised rifles from the government had reached shooters (a promise from the government that was decided 1899). From the year 1900 this 5000 rifles were sold through "Centralstyrelsen" (Central board) to clubs or individual shooters.
1941. Allowed to use rectangular post (or the earlier triangular) and U-shaped notch rear sight (or the earlier V-notch).
1947. Diopter rear sights allowed. But just for highest grade shooters (klass 5, klass 4 and veterans).
1952. All shooters allowed to use diopters. (1951 decided that diopters could be fitted on rifles that was loaned by the government, the Crown. See "Army Technical Order" in Jones "Crown Jevels" page 212.).
1960. Aperture front sights allowed.
Does anyone has other/different or more info on the subject?
