In America, CBS-TV News has been reporting on a few 1944 D-Day survivors returning to Normandy in 2014. Here are links to those news reports from this past week, as well as some related items, too:

Thanks for these links.
70 years ago the American, British and Canadian fighting men took the battle to the enemy, and won.
We should never forget.

6 June 1944: Today my father landed on Utah beach. Last night my uncle jumped into Normandy with 82nd Airborne.

Its a huge day of remembrance for this family. We go to Arlington National Cemetery tomorrow.

Will say a prayer for them and all their comrades.

Coincidentally, my Dad's birthday is June 6. I once, somewhat jestingly, asked him if he thought they had put the assault off from June 5 to June 6 to celebrate his 23rd. He thought a minute or two and said "If they did, they gave me a pretty good present, since they let me stay in the States instead of being there for the party" more or less. Dad considered he was fortunate to not go overseas until the Navy sent him to Okinawa in the spring of 1945, and that the War ended without an invasion of Japan. Sadly, can't celebrate this birthday/anniversary with him as we lost him in 2005.
