Has anybody used CRC white lithium grease, the spray on stuff, on the outside surfaces of the metal of a gun? I got some at Walmart tonight. It was pretty reasonably priced. I took apart a rifle, applied it to the metal, and reassembled. I don't know how long it will stay put, but it looks good.

Most greases are lithium based, a mix of a lithium soap and a mineral oil, but the spray stuff has too much light oil and probably isn't heavy enough for lasting protection. I'd guess, without having tested it, that it'll be better than a light oil like Rem Oil or 3 in 1, but not nearly as good as a heavy grease made for sporting gear like RIG or Penn Reel Grease that will have a lot of anti-corrosion additives.
I've only used it on hinges and other light stuff, found it too light for my garage doors and it just didn't last.
