Hello!

I was wondering if anyone has ever converted 7.7 semi-rimmed Japanese machine gun ammo (Type 92) to the standard 7.7 Arisaka by filing down the rim or even milling? I have an opportunity to get my hands on a bit of 7.7 Type 92 MG ammo and was wondering if it could be converted?

You could pull the rounds and reuse the powder in a proper rifle casing without a problem....that has been done. 'Machining' brass cases does not sound like a good idea and def not time worthy.
As Ed noted they are corrosive but if you change out the brass to PPU/Norma and use new primers then they will not be corrosive. The bullets and powder loads have been used in new brass by others (some vids on that) with no issues.

Three items to be aware of.
Very corrosive if it goes off
Questionable brass it may split the cases or have a case head separation.
Bullets are usually 205 grain boat tails. Not a great choice for the bolt action type 99
