Thanks! This m/39 is really enjoyable to shoot. I also practise every now and then reloading with stripper clips. I must say that It is not always as smooth and there is difference between various stripper clips. Sometimes dryfire pays off.

Just out of curiosity Jake, how much do the M39 and other variants cost in Finland? Very smooth bolt manipulation indeed.

Very nice. So many times nowadays many get caught up thinking that only a modern semi auto rifle can/should be used for close combat shooting drills. I applaud you for running a military bolt action. For over a century the bolt action gun was used in this role from 20 ft to 2000 yards. Nothing wrong with that. Well done video I enjoyed watching.

very true. I sort through my clips to find the best ones and mark them. Dry fire is great practice. Great shooting

I use G.W.S., Tikka and Russian clips. They all work fine altough Russian ones are little bit better. Fast and accurate handling of rifle is possible even with Mosins. I also shoot old civil guard drills at 100 and 150 meters. They too require fast shooting and reloading.

Are the courses of fire available somewhere online? Would be fun to try some.

A while back I printed some British figure targets and tried some of the 1914 musketry practices with my SMLE and it was a ton of fun

Great video, appreciate your posting this. That drill requires some real practice time. BTW, your ability to work the safety is astounding! I have enough trouble just pulling it back to set!😂

I don't know any online source about civil guard drills except Finnish national archive magazines and newspapers. I have Ampumakirja 1 ja 2 osa (1929)civil guard book that have rifle, pistol, submachine gun, light machine gun and machine gun drills.

Drill 14 is earlier exercise and drill 1 is more advanced, preparing for combat shooting exercises. There is of course basic and field shooting exercises and so on at distances at 100 to 300 meters. Something like 10 shots from standing, kneeling and prone at 150 meters.

Drill 14: 100 meters, head figure target, 3 shot at 45 sec from prone. At start rifle is on safe, resting on left hand. Pass is 2 hits.

Drill 1: 100 meters, head target, 5 shots at 30 sec, pass is 4 hits.
