I looked over a Colt SP1 at a shop yesterday and I was wondering how to tell if the upper is original to the lower. It looked to be unfired, however it had a birdcage flash hider and green park. I thought the green park came on the early ones with the 3-prong FH?
Also, the upper looked to have been redone, as there was park over a nick in the back near the buttstock. But the finish was a great match for the lower in tone. etc. Did Colt pull non-forward assist uppers from used M-16s, redo them, then put them on SP1s?
