This is a Colt model 1917 Arsenal cutaway, made for instructional purposes. SN 168722 and U.S. Army number 19308

it almost appears that it could be, but cutaways were never meant to be fired, but teach.... Were some made to be fired?

cutaway 1917

There is really nothing about the way this was cut to make is non functional in any way. It could be fired, but I don't think I will do so.

IMO its totally inconvenient to shoot a cutaway model, simply because when cut for training purposes the resistance and different forces a revolver has to withstand during the firing were not taken in consideration, so th piece may result extremely fragile in certain crucial parts
