i have a taurus tracker .44 magnum, and i was wondering how it might change its characteristics if i were to sort of... weld the ports shut. this would still of course leave the large chamber at the end of the muzzle. it would be to eliminate the added loudness and flash. i searched all over and it doesnt seem like anyones tried it, or considered it. this makes me think there is some simple flaw with having a chamber thats a larger diameter than the bullet at the end of the muzzle. anyone know what would happen?

Depends on how smooth your weld surface is when you get done. Inside surface, not outside. You could have some odd effects on your accuracy if the surface isn't smooth. For my money, you'd be ahead to just shorten the barrel behind the ports and remount the front sight.

Was digging through my old gun mags last night, and found reference to a set of ports that could be turned on and off in a compensated gun. It's been a while since I paid attention to the Taurus porting system. Is there a separate gas ring cut for each port? If there is, I may have a fix for you that won't involve welding.

its just an open chamber with 8 holes at the top. im not sure exactly what you're asking but i think that answers it. would there be any advantages to leaving the closed port chamber instead of cutting it off?

Hi l3enilli,

If the ports are round, I would just tap the holes & install set screws. You WILL ruin the barrel with any welding.

Other thoughts-
Sell the revolver off or trade it. Taurus might change out your barrel at a low cost, just ask!
