Cleaning the SVT with Scope and Mount

Hi all.

Since SVTs were a hot topic today, wanted to throw something out there that I recently had to deal with.
I just added a Numrich repro mount and PU scope to my SVT40. After a range session I prefer not to take down the mount setup after spending the day fine tuning. I was able to do my typical field strip for cleaning, but it was VERY difficult getting the bolt assembly back in place. The mount base really gets in the way, trying to work around the scope doesn't make life much easier. Should I just suck it up and take the mount down? Not worry about disassembling the bolt for cleaning? Hit the gym so I can put more elbow grease into reassembly? For those of you that shoot with a scoped SVT, how do you clean yours?

Regards,
JB

You can get it apart with the mount and scope on. Maybe I'll put up a video because I don't know how to explain it. Its definitely possible. The trick is getting the recoil spring guide rod out. Once you get that done you're there.
The problem with the repro mounts is the locking clip. They don't fit snugly enough and allow the mount to move around. This movement beats up the groove in the receiver. I use adhesive to hold the mount in place. Its not permanent and does not affect the receiver but makes removal much more difficult.
