I had purchased 2 of the broken stock specials and finally received the first one on Thursday. I am unsure on year of manufacture but it is all matching, even the stock that it came with matched the rifle but unless a use a couple brass pins to hold it together it is pretty much toast. I found one of the Chinese Fiberglass stocks locally in Vegas and after some light fitting it is nice and snug, i also found a pebble finish " french tickler" hand guard via Ebay and it matches pretty well. It only has around 50-65% bluing but luckily it was rust free, just tons of cosmo, grime and what appeared to be some kind of animal hair in the cosmo. The barrel is near perfect as is the crown, i took it out yesterday with my Y Gun Rifle Firearm Trigger Air gun

ugo i had just completed and this gun was hitting a 6" plate at 100+ yards without effort. It was definitely worth the cost of the build. Type 56 via RTI $225.67+Jungle Stock $12.50 and Hand guard $18.25=$256.42 + 4 hrs of cosmoline removal and fitting the stock id say it was well worth it, i just cant wait to see what the second rifle looks like, But i am more than happy with my first Type 56. Big Thanks To Royal Tiger Imports and Joey and Dave in customer service. i will definitely purchase from you guys again!!!

I also put a "jungle stock" on one of the two Royal Tiger specials I bought -great buys!

Sadly, it seems the red-orange phenolic "jungle stocks" from China never really were issued for military use, but they sure look good! I had hoped to get one personally autographed by old Uncle Ho Chi Minh, but no such luck.

Be sure you keep the original stock as these stocks have historical value and you may well want it some day.

Original stock fix or leave as is ?

On that note the original stock is a matching # stock. It has a clean split from the wrist near the trigger group area all the way through the top near the receiver, should I glue and clamp it? Maybe use a brass pin to hold it together, should i refinish it or leave it as is? i dont want to ruin its collector value as everything matches, thanks for any help

Don't use a brass pin - that would be incorrect looking if visible. Don't refinish anything -the stock is worthless to collectors if you strip it or put new finish on.

A completely separated break can have a pin or dowel put into the two halves by shallow drilling on the inside of the broken halves where it won't show, then gluing and clamping.

I fix my cracked stocks carefully with marine epoxy, first coating the outside of the stock surface near the crack with Vaseline so the epoxy doesn't stick to the stock exterior, then clamp it tight to dry. You can push glue into the crack with a toothpick if needed. Dries clear and then I rub a bit of Tom's Pine Tar (eBay) over the joint and any recent dings and damage to the stock that has left bare wood.

A very thin crack needs either thinned epoxy or an acrylic wood glue to get deep in the crack. Don't use something like Gorilla Glue (a urethane glue) -it turns yellow and expands, both very wrong for the job.

You also could just leave it completely alone if you aren't going to use it, but then somebody might throw the poor old thing away in future. I'd repair it and keep it.

Thanks for the advice!!!

I really appreciate that, i was thinking of just using a brass pin to secure the crack and maybe some gorilla glue, Im glad i didnt ruin the thing, Thanks again for everything, i never even though of drilling out each half from the inside of the crack and using a dowel, This forum saves me ( and my gun) yet again- David
