doods, anyone got a line on those 20-round box mags, with the Chinese star on them (for the SKS)? I remember seeing one on Gun Broker once, but now there don't seem to be any. anyone seen any out there?

thanks in advance! :)

Had one many years ago, pre-import ban. 3 or 4 FTFs per mag.
Gunparts corp sold them for years for $20 prior to the supply running out after the import restrictions kicked in. Other than that, they are fairly common and I have never paid more than $40-$45 for one.

Keep an I eye on the trader or gun shows; not a rare mag to find.

really? that sucks!

thanks for the info man. will do!

i'm selling one if interested, here's a link to it on the WTS board http://forums.gunboards.com/showthr...inco-20rd-SKS-mag-(fixed-W-Star-on-both-sides)
I'll check it out. thanks for the lead! :)
I've got a couple if you're interested. On is 98%, minor blue wear on internals. Other is like new. Never used either one, so no idea on functionality. Drop me a line if you want pics. [email protected]
Had one for years. sold it last year. Now I am using the Tapco 20 rd mags. The Chinese 20rd mag worked pretty good most of the time.
Had one and sold it, I wasn't too impressed. If you didn't load it with stripper clips it was too hard to keep the rounds lined up in it and it would jam. Sometimes you couldn't even load them all in. Since I have a scope and a brass deflector on my SKS that didn't work out for me so went back to the ten rounder.
I picked up a security forces marked Chinese SKS in excellent condition off of a walk in that had the 20 round star magazine. Took it to the range and ran about 750 rounds through it over the course of 4 weekends. Had a total of 3 FTF's, each one was the last round in the mag.
hmmm. sounds like they are problematic!

IMO, I wouldn't call 3 FTF's out of 750 rounds "problematic".
unless you were counting on that last round to drop the last zombie. ;)
We had a few dozen in the late 80s/early 90s. We tested several, and of those, all had some feeding quirks. All were loaded from stripper-clips, because that is how the $80 a case ammo came packed. We sold them for cost under a sign that said "NEW SKS 20rd PLA MAGS, INSTALL EASILY, BUT DO NOT WORK", or similar blatant wording. Sold them all the first day of that show; even the lightly 'used' ones, though over half went to a few dealers. We had people ask why they were less than half price, (like there was a trick involved), and then some returns the next show; had to make a new sign !

love it! and thats very true, if that last round was meant for the 20th zombie, you would be screwed..............also, i have 20rd tapco mags, and 0 ftf, and it always stays open after the last shot.

yeah, cause that last zombie might be inches from you and a loved one, reaching out at you. then you get a FTF or FTC, and you have to go hand-to-hand with a smelly zombie. not an optimal sitch! ;)
I have around 12 of the mags for various SKSs, though I don't bugger the Russian SKSs with them. A few have needed a little tweaking here and there, but nothing major, mostly just a slight bend of the feed lips or something. After that , they have all functioned with no problems. Due to bad reports on other types of commercial mags, I have stayed away from them except for one I bought back in the early 90s; a 20 rnd non detachable prior to the Clinton scare and for some strange reason this mag operates with no flaws...then again I suspect some of the quality back then was a little better.
well, none of my sks's have ever jammed. So to me 3 rds out of 750 is problematic. I tried a 20 round box, and a duckbill detachable 30. Both were terrible.....The 30 rd duckbill dropped out of the gun occassionally while firing it, and the 20 would jam occassionally on me. The ten rd original magazine is simply the only way to go with an sks (other then the 'D' models designed and built to use the ak 30's)......I would never modify a masterful design such as the sks in this way, just to aviod the headaches....

That's what your bayonet on SKS does! Or your sword...or your side arm. Fear not the zombie.
