I picked up a Mosin Nagant with the following stamped into the stock.

Don't know 100% it is Chinese, (or if it is even legit) just taking a stab that the /66\ might be The Long Yan Factory, but I have had no luck with the 3 charactors other than I have seen the 3rd one on Chinese AK's from arsenal /66\

Any help would be appreciated

Longyan is Factory /36\.

Factory /66\ is in Northern China in the city of Bei'an.

The characters look almost like the same three that you see on the SKS for "Type 56". Maybe it means Type 53? I sent the image to my Chinese freind. I'll let you know what she says...

Walther,

are these marks on a 1960 dated stock or replacement stock (with serial number on the butt)?

The characters translate to "56 style". My friend said that the "5" and "style" are clear but the "6" is not. She said it looked like someone tried to modifiy it.

So, I does seem that the characters are the same (except for the modified middle character) as what you find on the side of the Chinese SKS Type 56. Strange to find these on a Mosin Nagant stock.
