I haven't kept up with the latest research but there are three different groups indicating probable manufacture: 1895, 1898 and 1902. Interesting rifle to research but not much detailed information as with the Webster book on the Argentine Mausers.

I think that any Mauser manufactured by Ludwig Loewe is pre-1898, as DWM took them over around the 1896~1897 timeframe. I think this would rule out 1898, and 1902. Being an "A" prefix, it was likely made very early in the contract, which would point back to 1895.
