Brown material is probably (the original and correct) Bakelite. Big questions are, who's building these and on what receiver?

Saw two of these at this past weekends Tanner show here. On NO-Dak recv's, Had the left side selector (Fake) installed. Built by CIA, matching kit, looked very nice, good park finish, 1 mag.
Well over 700USD,plus tax, transfer, etc. from the Dealer (Stuff is always high, but he has it)
Made me start to think about one. The other version is the Interarms one from Altantic. Also nice, but more $$$

Tantals are very nice AK variants. Nice to shoot in the 5.45x39. That calibre and the rifles that fire it are becoming more popular as the ammunition is some of the most affordable for rifle shooting. I built a Tantal about two years ago. I used a standard AK74 receiver (that was all that was available then) and did not complete the left side selector/safety mechanism. Fairly routine build with a little trimming at the rear trunnion area to fit in a standard AK74 receiver.
Also purchased a WASR 2 from AIM Surplus this past summer when they were $289 along with a small pile of ammo.. Great shooter type rifle. Not sure if they still have them at that price.

Century Tantals

Hello all. Recently looked at a Tantal at the Springfield Ma. show. The fit and finish were really nice but the wire type folding stock wasn't to my liking. Kinda difficult to get a good cheek weld. Too bad they didn't put the side folding type (like the AK74)on instead. I've heard that they accept the standard type AK74 mags.

I have heard that Century is building the Tantals on US made non-chrome lined barrels. Some possible issues with early rifle barrels (keyholing). Cannot verify commpletely. Worth checking into if planning a purchase of a Century build.
