This was a local find a few years ago. It’s dated Taisho 10 (1921). There are also pouches identical to this but without the shoulder strap. Also some of these pouches have the tool loops on the front and some don’t

Nice, dawgs! Reckon that rig is rare. I've not come across a cavalry ammo pouch at a show in almost 60 years attending.
Thanks Fred. These pouches are quite hard to find. I have two others that I’ll take photos of later today. BTW, the spurs on my boots are dated Showa 16 (1941)

Dawgs, here's one without the shoulder strap lugs and with the tool loops.
Thanks Okiedokie! From what I’ve seen in original photos, these pouches without the shoulder straps appear to have been used by non front line troops and seem to have always been used with the T-38 carbine
That pouch looks good with the bottle of JD 👍

Here are my other two cavalry pouches. One has the external tool loops and the other doesn’t. Also, one has brass hardware and the other uses galvanized steel. These pouches also used a narrow waist belt just like those used on the T-14 holsters
