Hi, first post here. I have two sporterized Carcanos I picked up over the years. They are both in 6.5x54 MS.One has set triggers and takes the normal Carcano charger. The other has a charger pinned in the magazine and can be loaded like a normal rifle. They are both so similar in appearance it looks like they are factory conversions. Both say 6.5mm on the rear sight and looks like MC in a square underneath with a 6 then 16..date? Any info much appreciated.

Look down the barrel Some of sporters will have a 4 groove fast twist barrel. Take it out of the wood and see if there is a set screw under the barrel at the receiver. Some of these were turned down and the barrel was put into the action and the olny thing holding the barrel in is the set screw. Not advisble to shoot them. Most of these sporterized guns were sold to a department store chain in Canada. They were done by an Austrian company in the 1920's. In fact most of the set trigger guns that were sold are mostly all in Canada. Nice gun. Here is a photo of two from my collection.

Sir, would it be possible for you to post a photoor give a description of how the charger clip is pinned in place ? Does it permit loading individual rounds like a mauser, remington and such?
Thank you.

HI 257 Rigby, heres some pics of how it was done, they didnt use an actual charger as it would have been too sloppy. The back part is a half inch longer than normal and is retained at the top by the clip release and pinned at both bottom sides. The other parts are spring steel and rivetted on.It loads like any normal magazine rifle. Please dont call me sir,its too formal..-Mariko
