Got one of these carbines sometime back. Anyone know why there were cut off sections of what appears to be cleaning rods pounded into holes in the buttstock under the buttplate?. Tried to get a couple out with vise grips
but not enough metal to get a hold of. Thanks, Frank

Hi Frank,

Which Carcano model is it? Is there a small trapdoor on the buttplate? Some of the carbines have a small trap to hold 2 sections of cleaning rod (one slotted and one unslotted in the head area for patches) The 1938 short rifle takes 3 sections. Perhaps someone jammed 3 sections in your stock, or 2 sections and patches maybe to make removal difficult. You should be able to pull them out with needlenose pliers.
